Best Replacement Speaker For Fender 68 Custom Twin Reverb Amp
Whew! We made it. This is the last installment on the series of speaker upgrades for Fender's awesome "drip-edge" Custom 1968 re-issue series of amps. This blog will focus on the big daddy of the bunch the Twin Reverb. This is a seriously cool amp, and I have some serious deja vu going on as I think about this amp ... because it is SO much like the amp I carried to hundreds of gigs in my first high-school band!
Yep, that's little-boy me, with my JBL equipped Twin Reverb that literally weighed MORE than I did!
So our discussion of this re-issue Cuastom 68 Twin is actually going to be VERY quick and easy, why? Because, you see, it's basically the same amp as the Custom '68 Deluxe Reverb but with TWO 12" Celestion speakers instead of one, and a pair of 6L6 output tubes for about 85-watts RMS ias opposed to the pair of 6V6 tubes in the 22-watt Deluxe Reverb. Tonally, they are nearly identical, except the Twin has a good deal more clean head-room and room-filling power, of course!
So, if ya want to improve upon the tone of those stock Chinese Celestion's, the answer is the same as with the DR, a pair of WGS G12C's. Why, read my Custom 68 Deluxe Reverb blog :-)
Y'all take care now, ya hear?
