I have a peavy valveking 212 combo amp that has the stock valveking speakers in it(which are about as muddy as speakers can get) and would like to put a ET 65 and a Veteran 30 in it. Would i just wire the speakers exactly as they are wired in there now, and purchase the same ohms as the valveking speakers? Im new with this whole speaker replacement thing so dont want to screw anything up. Also, it is okay to mix and match speakers as long as the wattage adds up to over 100 watts right?(valveking 212 is 100 watts). Thanks
-Josh
Yep, just go with the same impedance wired the same way and you'll be good. And yes, we generally encourage mixing-n-matching.
The Valveking is a great example of an amp that can REALLY benefit from a speaker upgrade. In order to meet the ridiculous low price-point, they need to do some serious cost-cutting somewhere ... and the speaker is usually the area where they skimp the most!
I would only make one slight tweak: go with a Retro 30 & a ET65 - articulate with a sparkly top, a little throaty, urgent midrange, and a big, tight bottom. Or, if you really want to bring out more sparkle, jangle and overall presence in the amp, just go with two Retro 30's.
Then, post back here with your results, your gonna be really, really pleased!
Thank you so much for your help. I think im goint to go with the Retro 30 and the ET65. Ill let you know how everything turns out.
Thanks so much for your help. Im gunna go with the ET 65 and the retro 30 i believe. Let you know how it turns out
I am going to replace my speakers in my Valveking I already have a 16 ohm 50 watt reaper. what would you suggest as a second speaker? Mines already broke in as it was in a Eggnator combo, Do you repurchase speakers back to trade. I play mostly blues and christian . I like a good mix highs and lows and clean. Though i do tread into the Joe Bonamassa Govt Mule realm in some my song writing, Thoughts?? Thanks u make great products
