Has anyone out there done a shootout with (or have heard both of these side by side,) the Reaper 30 (75 Hz) and the Reaper HP?  I have heard and seen many videos of the 30, but very few with HP and none comparing the two.  Does the HP have a heftier bottom end than the Reaper 30?  What other differences are there besides power handling capability?

Yea, the HP has just a little more bottom and just a little less top ... but they are VERY close to one another!

Anyway, i have an ET65 in my HRDx and i'm VERY happy........but i'm really curious to listen to others WGS speakers in this  amp.

My marathon video with my Deluxe Reverb should translate over to your Hot Rod Deluxe fairly well.

Overall, in a 1x12 open-back Fender tube amp, I've prety much never found anything I like better than The ET65 - including very expensive vintage and/or AlNiCo models!

Vaughn, thanks for the shootout and I'll explain why in a second.  Because of your monster video comparing bunches of speakers for your Deluxe Reverb, I decided to replace the Retro 30 in my Supersonic 22 with the Reaper 30 and put in the order a couple of days ago.  I already have a Reaper HP loaded in a Blues Deluxe Reissue  that I was thinking about switching over to the Supersonic, but the Reaper v. Reaper vid shows me I'd be happier with the standard 30 due to the added spank and brightness. I initially liked the Retro, but it has a lot of mid that I'd rather have something more balanced in the Supersonic.

Now, a request.

Since you're a big fan of the Burriss easy-change cabinets, would you talk to the good folks at WGS and ask if they would consider carrying them?  They're very interesting and I would much rather get one through WGS rather than another company I haven't dealt with through mail order.

Thanks!

Yea, WGS NEEDS to carry those cabs!  But hey, feel good about buying from Burriss.  I've been to Bob's factory - it's on the other end of KY in Lexington - and have spent a lot of time with him, he's awesome!  Only real problem is that those cabs are pretty expensive.  He's offering a cheaper version now without the removable back ... but personally, that's as cool to me as the instant speaker changes!

Let me know how the SS22 gets along with the Reaper.

I installed the Reaper and took it out on a 3 hr gig on Derby Eve and thought it handled the SS22 very nicely. IMO, there's not too much difference between the Retro and the Reaper as far as sound on the highs and mids.  Both have lots of sparkle and chime, but where the Reaper stood out is that it was fuller in the bottom end, and like a good perm, had more body and sounded better in the open back cab of the Fender.  The other observation was that I had to goose the treble up a bit to coax the same brightness as a Retro but that's not a bad thing.

With apologies to Ron Popeil, "Wait, there's more!"

I obtained a Fender Deluxe 1x12 speaker cabinet for the gig and ripped out the crappy Celestion 70/80 and put in my ET65 to use with the SS22/Reaper.  The result was a lot of a sweet balanced sound using a Fender Strat and a Hagstrom Ultra Swede with a good bit of wooliness, but that was toned down by turning down the bass a notch.  Surprisingly, the ET has a upper frequency presence  that compliments the Reaper very well.  A sweet combo to my ears, either clean or overdriven.

I got a Deluxe Fender Cabinet 1x12 speaker to get upset and came out with a 70/80 crappy Celestion and put in my ET65 for use with SS22 / Ripper. The result was a lot of sweet sound balanced using Vander Jacket and Hagstrom Swedish Ultra with a little wool, but this was narrowed by cutting the prong bass.
