Hi guys,

I have a Tweed Deluxe (5E3) type amp, with a few mods: Deluxe Reverb OT for tighter bass, Brown Deluxe-type tone/volume controls for more volume progressivity, and a larger cab for better bass response.

I currently have a Vintage30 loudspeaker in it for testing, but can't decide what loudspeaker to put in 'for real'.

What I am looking for:

  • good bass response, tight and articulate
  • high-end sparkle, but without being ear-piercing like some Jensens I tried.
  • high sensitivity (around 100dB), to get some headroom reserve before the amp breaks up
  • mids don't need to be much emphasized, the 5E3 already has spades of mids
  • not Alnico, for cost reasons

I also tried this amp with a G12H30: sounded quite good, but I am open to other WGS options

any idea ?

cheers,

Well ... everything you said points to Retro 30.

But ... if it were me, I'd go Reaper ... which would be very close to the G12H30 tone.

Thanks for your feedback, the description of the Reaper is appealing indeed !

Now: Reaper or Reaper 55, that is the question...

Regular Reaper ... or HP if you want a little cushion on the wattage ... but I wouldn't go with the 55HZ cone, they're just too dark ...
