I have a Marshall VS265 2x12 combo. They are known as a "mid monster" amp, with the mids really coming out, the treble is piercing to the ears at times even with the treble turned way down, and it lacks in the bottom end. It has Marshall Gold Back (eminence) speakers in it. What would you suggest for replacement speakers to give me the bottom end and roll the mids and treble back a bit? It is a 130 watt combo, 8 ohm speakers, open back cab. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Pair of ET65's, hands-down winner :-)
I'm going for the typical Marshall tones for classic rock, raspy blues. I would enhance some highs and firm up the bass side of the spectrum. I have the Retro30 in another amp and love it.
Here in this thread 2xET-65 was recommended for the VS265.
Elsewhere I read that for the vintage Marshall tone in a 2x12 cabinet, it was recommended a combination of ET-65 with a Retro30. Can you explain the differences in sound between these recommendations and the reasons why they are recommended?
Thanks John.
