I recently built a Trinity Tramp amp.  It is a 12W amp using a circuit giving a sound similar to a Fender Tweed when it's clean and similiar to a Marshal when it's distorted.  The cabinet I have it in needs a 12" speaker, so that's the only real constraint.  Does anyone have any advice for a speaker?  I was thinking either the G12Q, or a Reaper.  Any tips?

"I was thinking either the G12Q, or a Reaper."

Wow!  Big difference!!!  The Reaper will sound huge & rewarding (usually a good thing) ... the G12Q will sound VERY vintage and "tame" ... and be a good bit lighter!

Sooo .... for a gigging amp, go Reaper ... if it's just for bedroom/studio use, you could go either way ... if you've got a bad back, go G12Q :-)

Personally, I'd choose the Reaper for sure.

The last post in this thread is two years old, so I thought I'd ask for an update on speaker recommendations.  I am building a Trinty Tramp kit as well.  I intend to put it into a Fender 5E3 Tweed Deluxe style cabinet (20" x 16.5" x 9.5'), which should easily accommodate either a 10" or 12" speaker.  The Tramp is a versatile amp that supports many different types of tubes (6V6, 6L6, KT66, EL34, 6CA7, KT88 and KT77).  It is marketed as being two amps in one: a Fender Champ in "tweed mode" and Marshall style "crunch" in "tude mode."

Does anyone at WGS have any recommendations for speakers?  I need to decide first whether to go with a 10" or 12" speaker.  Then I need to decide which speaker will be the most versatile and bring out the best in the amp.  I'm looking for classic rock crunch tones (think AC/DC or Led Zeppelin), but also for good cleans.

Thanks for your response.
