I am trying to decide on a pair of WGS speakers for a 2X12 extension cabinet. I have a Marshall JVM 205C which is a 50-watt 2X12 combo. It has two different Celestions in it -- a Heritage and a Vintage. I mainly use it at home at relatively low volumes for playing and recording. It sounds amazing and gives me two mic'ing options... I'm not building an extension cabinet because the amp is inadequate or anything like that; it's more that I want a project to work on and would like to expand the tonal options for recording. In particular, I want tones that people describe as "warm," "smooth," and "creamy." I play rock 'n' roll almost always through the overdrive channel (amber mode) using a Les Paul. I began with the Green Beret as a Greenback-style option, which led me to the Invader 50 (higher wattage). I also had identified the Celestion Anniversary as one that I really liked, which led me to the WGS Reaper HP. I would love to hear thoughts on the Invader 50 and Reaper HP as good options for warmer, creamier tones compared to the Vintage and Heritage tones I already have.
"good options for warmer, creamier tones compared to the Vintage and Heritage tones I already have."
EASY! 1 ET65 & either a Reaper 55 or a G12C/S.
I have the same amp. Mine is paired w/ an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12. The cab is loaded w/ one ET65, and a Retro 30. I much prefer the wgs speakers to the celestions in the amp. The cab came w/ celestions also. WGS speakers have more of everything without the harshness.
