G12Q cab recommendations open or closed?

The subject pretty much asked my question, but in more specific info: I run either an Orange Dark Terror 15w or a VOX Night Train 15w head. I primarily play kind of a Jazzy-Blues (chord-wise) or go between high-gain leads (if angry) to a Texas blues with a little more thickness on the bottom end. I am considering the g12q (speaker break up just does it for me a lot of times compared to chip/resistor or as a compliment to tube break-up) due to the power-ratings being so close (although I could just run 7/7.5w) I am wondering if you could help me determine which cab to buy for. I had heard a myth of MIC placements that edge/angled (cardioid dynamic) can help to make a closed back imitate an openback as far open/airy sounding and wondering if you agree on that subject. (I'm green on sound-reinforcement/recording and one of your vids you talked a bit about having knowledge in the vast field of tone)
Welll ... first off ... in the room (Live) NOTHING makes a closed cab sound open (or to a lesser degree vise/versa).
Open: 3-dimensional room-filling sound.
Closed: focused Like a laser beam in front of the cabs & nothing but bottom & lower mids to the sides & behind.
I've been REALLY digging the 1/3 open-backĀ thing ... best of both worlds ... the thump of a closed cab without the overboard directionality.
I did say it was a myth and was checking for legitimacy lol. Thanks for the help. Can't wait till I can order from y'all again
First let me thank you for your input. Second, I knew that in person nothing can make one sound like the other (Open/closed back). Was referring to studio (as in what will be heard in recording in an environment of controlled acoustics <proper studio) or live in an environment in which the amplifier is drowned out by lets say a pair of 1000w powered mains and matching subs and must be mic'ed up. I opted to go with the Green Beret in the Vox Cab until I decide for the closed back or otherwise build a cab. But, again: I really appreciate your advice/knowledge. Can't wait until it comes in!
Post back here with your results, please :-)
My apologies upon taking a while, but here are my results. I opted for the green beret to replace the green back in my Vox NT. For those that don't know, the Vox-voiced greenback has a bit of a bump in the mids compared to original. At first, I was blown away at the beefy chunks on the bottom end. The highs were sweet and eliminated the shrill in the original (also found in the Jensen Jet Falcon) but, felt a little hindered. Genalex Gold Lion el-84's and premium 12ax7 (gold pins to tame brightness) and the bass tightened right up and the chime shined through beautifully. After quite a while of playing, decided to play my orange through it with a germanium diode pedal pushing the rawk crunch I had the gain set for to chugging thrash (eq scooped.) Used a Tele with emg t-set. When I played middle position with tone dialed back just a bit and got a fuzz-like fizz complimented by what sounded like a semi-truck on a heavey jake-brake. All in all, from chimey clean to crunchy blues, to in your face rawk and chugging thrash or growling metal. This is a GREAT speaker. Apologies upon the delay on my results. Rawk on, hang loose, but peace out. Until my next speaker inquiry/purchase (tone searching is never over... I love it)
