I would like to add some low mids to my Laney VC30 212 - it currently runs two seventy 80 in parallel. I was wondering if there is something I can do to add some meat - low mids I guess - I run the amp bass full - mids at 2 and highs at 3 - I like a bit of sparkle, but enjoy some substancve to the tone. Extreme sensitivity to dynamics would be a plus, as the stock speakers are just slightly stiff.

My idea was to replace one of the stock speakers with either a 12c or an ET65 - is there a hemp-cone wgs speaker - I like those.

So to boil it down - which WGS would pair well with with a seventy 80 in a 212 enclosure?

Best regards,

JJ

P.S. - I use clean (quite a bit) and drive from crunch to full sustained distortion (some people just need drive and vice versa)

I'd go ET65 or Reaper ... both will add a good bit of lows & lower mids ... the ET65 being more organic & vintage sounding, and the Reaper a bit more in your face.

DON'T go with a regular G12 ... they are very bright ... a G12C/S would be okay ... but not as nice as the ET or Reaper

Hey Vaughn thank you for the comment,

I was leaning reaper myself, and am now torn - depends on what you mean with in your face - I like a princeton reverb in your face - if that's ewhat you mean - a kind of puncj in the gut with a sonic boom this is good. The et65 in the samples sounds quite chimey, of the reapers - the HP seems most complex. I'll give some comparisons a read, to see what's what. The 70 8-0 is around 98 db efficiency, and when I tried apiring it with a c-rex, the c-rex completely overpowered it.

Interestingly I found that fender super-sonic 60 - which has a very nice punch, has a single Vintage 30 - which I always thought was not a bottom heavey speaker. Anyway, thx again, off to listening to comparisons I go.

Hey Vaughn,

I have a Laney VC30 212 too and I am planning to upgrade my speakers... I basically use it clean, and use distortion and drives from my stompboxes... I love the fender clean tone and I was thinking if my VC30 (basically a clone of a Vox AC30) could get these fender cleans with your speakers... I was thinking of:

a) 2x ET65

b) ET65 + G12C/S

c) 2x G12C/S

d) ET65 + Veteran 30

What would you suggest me?

Probably the 2 ET65's ... make one a Vet 30 if you want a little more urgent midrange ...

Hi, I'm thinking of doing the same to my laney vc30 212. Replacing the 2 hh invaders.

i like playing clean half the time, and the other half with the tube overdrive, more bluesy sound, but a little hint of rock sound.

what would you recommend? Would it still be the et65's plus the vet 30? Or is there another combination that you might suggest?

also I live in Australia, if that makes any difference for shipping?

one more question, I can't find anywhere, the ohm rating each speaker. Is it 8ohm or 16ohm? Thanks :)
