Hi -

I just picked up a Silvertone 1481 that was modded with an external speaker jack. I'm thinking about building a cab instead of buying one. Maybe a 1x12 to give a bigger sound than the stock 8".

I like a Vox-y tone, but I want something for the 1481 that is similar or complimentary to the stock speaker so the amp's original sound isn't completely lost. I also like playing right on the edge of breaking up so I get a bit of growl when I dig into the strings. I believe the amp is 5W and the speaker out is 4 ohms.

What do you recommend? I'm open to any size - whatever you think is best, even if it doesn't match my criteria above.

Thanks!

First ... I'd choose a 8-ohm speaker ... the most likly safe choice for that "added" jack.

Now ... for the speaker ... I'd say go for the Black and Blue if you can afford Alnico, and if not, ET65.

I'm confused. The guy who installed the jack said it is 4-ohm. He basically inserted a 1/4-in jack on the line between the amp and the speaker. I see conflicting info online about whether the 1481 is a 4 or 8-ohm speaker. Better to go with 8 to be safe?

As far as the speaker, the Black and Blue sounds amazing but costs almost what I paid for the entire unit. Which WGS sounds like the stock speaker? That's what I was trying to ask. And what size do you recommend? 8, 10, 12-inch?

Thanks again for your help!
