Anyone try this combo? Do they sound good together both clean and with distortion pedals? I think the ET65 may mellow out the G12C and that Jensen style midrange a bit.
I do have one of the Jupiter Speakers ceramic 50 watt speaker which you make for them. Its probably pretty close to the G12C. I paired that with an ET65 in my Twin. I think it sounds fantastic. Both speakers are about the same SPL.
Seems like the ET65 balances out some of the characteristics of a "Jensen" type speaker that I don't like. Gives it some more muscle if that makes sense. The amp still sounds VERY American - just more balanced.
Any thoughts on how the Jupiter compares to your standard line of speakers?
I tried several combinations of ET65, G12C, G10C and each as a 112/110 single speaker config.
The last amp I tried for this was a 90ies Red Knob The Twin (which ist my backup amp) - so it´s a bit off the blackface road, but maybe (depending on how I set the pots) not tooooooo far away from that question.
Frankly, I don´t think the G12C being a speaker that pairs really well. Even in a 212 G12C combination I always found something lacking in the lower midrange and something in the bass department was "too much", a bit uncontrolled.
It´s, on the other hand, a really brillant speaker for (larger?) 112. The midrange seemed lower, fuller to me then, the highs really sparkling and a round bass. The ET65/G12C didn´t come out like I expected. Somehow I had the impression it´s being the least desirable of the possibilities.
The G12C goes pretty with an G10C, which delivers a fatter midrange than the G12 with a tighter bass. This is a dynamic, american sounding cobination which is wonderful for sparkling highs and full bodied clean goodness. It also drives quite good, but can get a bit too trebly then.
In my opinion the best all-around match is the ET65 with the G10C. Giving less sparkle, but something I would descirbe as airy shimmer, really good midrange (a bit more meat) and tighter bass. So my advice would be going with this combination for a blackface 212. All you need is a 12" to 10" converter (I only now suppliers for that here in europe, sorry).
Another possibility is a G12C with a Jensen CH10/50. The WGS overpowers the Jensen much and giving most of the beauty of the single G12C (which ist VERY nice sounding) and a tad more lower midrange, where the Jensen has its peak a bit higher than the G12C.
Yea ... I'd be interested, too ... I think I tried this pairing many years back when I was first doing the blog ... but can't remember the results!
