So I've got this homebrew (50w 2xel34) of an amp that's very much got that marshal plexi-ish kind of sound. Nice midrange crunch, but the top end can be a bit chainsaw-ish .. if that makes sense.
I run a THD 2x12 openback cab, and for the longest time I've been running an ET65 and a Veteran 30. Both 8ohm in series for a 16 ohm load.
I decided to try playing with my speaker configuration to see how much of my sound was due to the speakers. I tried disconnecting the Veteran 30 and just running the single ET65 on the 8ohm output, and I have to say it's just glorious.. Exactly what I'm after. Disconnecting the Vet30 seemed to get rid of the ultra crispy chainsaw highs that I've been fighting with for a while.
So now I'm trying to figure out what I should replace the Veteran 30 with. I would just run the single ET65, but i love my cab, and feel like I should use 2 speakers in it.
I'm leaning towards just getting another ET65, but thought I should at least consider something else in there.
I should point out that both speakers are very broken in.. Easily each with a few hundred hours on them, so I don't think the Vet30 is going to smooth out anymore than it has.
Looking through the list of options, I'm kind of also considering the Green Beret, but I'm not sure how it's lower power handling capabilities will play out for me.
I've also considered the Reaper and all it's variants.. Particularly interested in the 55hz version and the fact that it's advertised as toning down the top end.
And then there's the Invader, which seems like it might be more viable than the Green Beret for me.. But it's listed as having a sweeter top end and I don't really know what that means.. Makes me think it might sparkle a bit too much up top.
Any input on the matter is greatly appreciated. I'm a huge Warehouse speaker fan, and I will continue to buy these great speakers.

Sounds like another ET65 for you :-)
