I'm very interested in trying out a WGS 12" speaker. I have my selection narrowed down a bit, but some insight from your staff would be very welcome! I'm looking to upgrade the 12" speaker in a Randall Diavlo RD40C. It is a 40w high-gain combo amp. The enclosure is more square than rectangluar. I would describe the back as partialy or mostly closed. The center of the cone and most of the speaker are covered, with an opening where a grate covers the tubes for easy access. It comes with a stock 50w Randall Diavlo speaker that sounds very much like their take on a Celestion V30. Lots of upper-mids that can overpower easily. The overall tone of the amp is more along the lines of a Rectifier than a Marshall. Thick and alot of body to it.
I'm looking for a speaker in the 50-75w range with alot of punch and clarity. I'd like to really hear a solid chug and kick when palm- muting. I'd like to cut some of the mids out. A speaker more "scooped", something that does not have over-powering mids and uppermids like a V30 does, would be best. Something with a nice dynamic range to it. Hopefully something that sounds good at both "bedroom" levels and band levels.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Retro 30 or HM75. Any suggestions or opinions? Thx, and looking forward to trying out my new speaker!
Since you are looking for "alot of punch and clarity. I'd like to really hear a solid chug and kick when palm- muting. I'd like to cut some of the mids out" ...
I'm gonna recommend Ret 30!
