The G12Q will have less bottom ... but not necessarily more top ...
You might want to consider the simple addition of a "bright" cap on the input (ala Fender).
I put in an old '71 Jensen replacement 12-inch (LMI-125) today. Yeah, it's a 100-watt speaker, but a huge increase in treble AND tube overdrive. VERY crunchy and thick.
I may still ty the 47pF across the volumes thing as well.
